A snow white sand bank, tropical lush vegetation, palm trees surrounded by a turquoise lagoon and deep blue sea - the first impression of Vilamendhoo proves to be a lasting one.

Last year a complex has been built by the west beach that contains a coffee shop, a sunset bar with sundeck, a billiards room, a gym and a tennis court.  The island is fairly large, as you could see from the above picture and its interior remains the most lush and interesting of any resort after Sonevafushi. In the cool shade of towering palms most of the country's flora is on display in one hidden corner or another.

If the sand is sometimes close to the tree line, so is the reef edge. All along the two sides of the island the reef hugs the shoreline. And with the reef life as good as it is, Vilamendhoo tops the table in snorkeling popularity. This isn't surprising when 70% or 80% of the guests here go diving. 

This corner of Ari has what is usually recognized as among the best diving in the Atoll. South of Vilamendhoo is the famous channel between Dhangethi and Dhigurah that has several first class dives and the Protected Marine Area of Kudarah Thila. And just a couple of minutes from the resort is Vilamendhoo Thila which is a manta point as well as a specialty site for hard and soft coral and schools of reef fish. The dive center, under Werner Weber, is greatly experienced and expertly run. 

Forty one rooms have recently been added to the existing 100, almost completing the circumference of the island. In pairs or as in single bungalows they are all similar in size and decoration. Some of  guests consider that the rooms are a bit "boxy". But otherwise we have not received any complaints about cleanliness, fittings and facilities. Every room has a/c, hot & cold water, full minibar and a telephone. There are plenty of drawers, shelves and hanging spaces. The bathroom is half open, with a small garden. The left side picture is the outside of a SUPERIOR Room, where you have your own white sandy beach; and the right side picture is an inside of a SUPERIOR Room. 

The reception and other public buildings by the main jetty are remarkable. There is a bar with separate lounge and disco , and evenings are generally quiet, as they usually are in major diving islands. And many excursions and fishing trips are available, though a minimum number is required, and, because it is a diving island, it is not always achieved
