Baros Island Resort

A
picturesque island with truly excellent beaches and diving facilities, Baros is
a favorite of honeymooners and high-fliers looking for a secret hideaway.
Charming
thatched cottages on land and over water hide luxurious air-conditioned comfort
inside. The entertainment is simple and the service is warm; the emphasis is on
privacy and comfort. For the more active, diving, water sports and night fishing
are some of the activities on hand. All you have to do is ask.
Half an hour from Malé and the airport, Baros is close enough to the capital for
day trips and shopping, but comfortably far enough for a feeling of splendid
isolation.
Baros is a
beautiful and a pretty resort with a lively atmosphere. The island is well
camouflaged under the trees and shrubs offering all the facilities of a large
hotel, in an attractive, intimate setting.
Baros has 75 rooms,
out of which 12 are Water bungalows, as you can see from the right side picture,
and all of these rooms are handsome and well built. The rooms are constructed of
dark wood, panels of woven screw pine thatched roofs, they merge with their
surroundings. And the rooms are well serviced. One service, some of our guests
noticed was that the towels are changed constantly, and, while guests are in the
restaurant, the rooms are tidied up, the lighting adjusted.

And
during the day time, the place livens up, specially in the evening. The shown
picture to the right is the large dance floor and the large Captain's Bar is
next door. And four nights a week, a live band plays and the good times roll
until the early hours.
The meal-plans are
Bed & Breakfast, Halfboard and Fullboard. The coffee shop offers a comprehensive
menu throughout the day and then, in the evening, alternates between a
steakhouse, a barbecue buffet and A La Carte restaurant. And the main
restaurant, serves buffets of different national food in every night.
The
beauty of the Coffee Shop is that it looks west and draws a crowd at sunset to
watch the sun go down and witness the feeding of rays at the beach. And the
lagoon on this side (the jetty side) is large and the bottom is sandy. Yes! this
is the right place for water sports. The other side of the island has a small
lagoon, with coral outcrops which is close to shore, so the snorkeling is
excellent within the lagoon at the reef edge.

As
you can see from the below picture, the only disappointment might be that there
is an outer seawall built all the way around the shoreline of the snorkeling
area. Still, the underwater of this area is very good. And for most of our
guests this seawall doesn't bother. Indeed, it is very important to keep the
seawall in such an island, enabling to keep the beach in its place all year
round and so far Baros has succeeded, as the beach is good to very good and
almost uninterrupted.
